Evaluation - Question 7

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Evaluation - Question 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Whilst constructing my magazine, I have discovered several pieces of technology and software that I have never used before, the first one being Adobe InDesign.

InDesign is the software i used most frequently whilst constructing my magazine. Before producing my music magazine pages, I had a bit of practice getting used to the software and finding out all the different gadgets i could use within the software whilst completing my preliminary task. At first i struggled remembering what to do with the software as there was so many different things that needed to be done in order to complete a magazine page but after a while of practising i got the hang of it and started completing sections alot quicker.

Also i had never heard of or used Blogger before, Blogger is used as a way of tracking my work step by step. It is very simple and easy to use. I personally really like Blogger and really like the structure of the website. I have enjoyed displaying my work in this way as it has a structured layout but also i like all the different things you can do when presenting your work.

The hardest software i used was Photoshop, i found it hard to use at the start as it was really difficult to get the hang of and remember all the details that i had to use to achieve a successful background removal. I edited the majority of my images on Photoshop because it made the quality of the images better. The only negative comment i have about the program is that it was far too time consuming with all the little details that needed to be adjusted however it made a huge positive effect on the final outcome.

A creative way of presenting my work was using Prezi. It is an alternative way to present my work in a very different and appealing way. I haven't used Prezi before hand but it was really simple to get the hang of, i really enjoyed using it and creating lots of attractive presentations.

Another way of showing my work instead of traditional blogging was creating a Powerpoint Presentation. I have used it for many years to create presentations and I find it very easy to use. It is a simple way of displaying work.
A Powerpoint has to be uploaded on to Slideshare, an online application so that it can be seen on Blogger. Sometimes my Powerpoint Presentations would change once they had been uploaded onto Slideshare and I would have to upload it again and adjust things it had changed. I felt that was a huge problem with using this application but it was worth it as it creates a different way of posting on my blog. It makes my posts much more easy on the eye.

To capture my images i used a Samsung camera. This camera was high quality and with this i produced very good images when using them for my music magazine. I learnt alot whilst taking pictures as i had to think about the lighting, the pose, the mise en scene, the outfit of the model and also the outfit of the model, also it helped me get more familiar with my camera. I created planning documents for the images before hand so i didn't waste valuable time when taking the images.

During the construction of my music magazine I also used my laptop and the internet played the biggest role in the construction of a successful magazine. The laptop was used for searching the internet and using the new software and programs needed to complete the magazine. The internet was used to research into other magazines and into conventional things within magazines etc, the internet has been vital throughout the year of studying Media Studies.
I have came across new and old technology in the making of my magazine and i am sure that they will become useful again in the future.

Evaluation - Question 3

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

I personally would want my music magazine to be a part of one of the biggest publishing groups in Europe, Bauer. I would want this because they have 80 brands serving 19,000,000 people, they have a giant audience with 4/10 people experiencing one of their products. They state on their website;
"Our business is built on millions of personal relationships with engaged audiences."
The success of Bauer and the worldwide recognition they have could help my product grow and become more well know around the world. This would mean that i get supported by a company who understands the magazine industry like the back of their hands, they know all the ins and outs.
As HITS is a multi-platform brand i would want each platform to be as successful as the other. Bauer would offer different platforms such as a radio channel or a television program, by doing so it makes each platform very recognizable and would help develop my magazine into a well known brand.
Bauer state that they 'connect with diverse and valuable audiences' and this is exactly what i would be looking for when publishing my magazine.
Even though there are different publishing groups such as IPC media, i feel that Bauer has a lot more to offer and would push my magazine to it's full potential and i would help them by attracting a whole new audience to their huge fan base. Bauer produce brands such as Q and Mojo magazine, so if my media product was published by this huge company it's possible that my magazine could make it as far as Q and possibly even further. I feel Bauer would have open arms if i was ever given the chance to have my magazine published by them, i feel a fresh new magazine, like HITS, that would attract hundreds of new fans and pleased all as it's a mixed genre magazine would definitely be a new thing for Bauer to take interest in.

To distribute my magazine, i would want the biggest and best magazine distributor in the UK, Frontline.
Frontline sells and distributes over 160 magazine titles, including 54 of the top 200 selling titles in the UK. They publish magazines such as Q and Mojo. As Frontline are so successful, it would be the obvious choice to make when choosing the distributor of the magazine. Frontline also try to make a difference by raising money for good causes and charity's, and as i personally am a big fan of doing this i feel that if HITS was associated with this behavior it would appeal and interest a bigger audience and it would be even better if the readers could get involved.

Evaluation - Question 2

How does the Media Product represent a particular social group?

When starting to research what kind of magazine i wanted to create, i came across magazines that gave me the inspiration for my images, layout, color scheme and just the structure of the magazine. I wanted my magazine to appeal to a mixed genre audience but the majority to be pop fans. I wanted to appeal to 15/16 - 25 year olds and so i had to reflect these requests with the content within the magazine.

Whilst browsing through magazine covers i came across this image of Ed Sheeran, i loved the way he was posing and that got me thinking about how i wanted Michael to pose. I felt i could somehow incorporate Ed's pose onto the magazine cover but instead have Michael looking directly at the camera.

I decided to take the image of Ed and use a similar kind of pose when taking photos of Michael. Michael is wearing a full black and white suit but is carrying his blazer over his shoulder, this outfit represents a new artist and also shows that he is serious about making it big. The color scheme i chose of red, black, white and some yellow stands out on the page and also will appeal to my target audience as the colors work well together and make the front cover pop, this will appeal to the audience as they're young and
fun.

The images on my contents page reflect different aspects of the mixed / pop genre, this is because not every artist is the same. To fully grasp the content and trust you can get from a magazine i decided to take pictures of 2 real artists and a picture of one of the writers for the magazine. For example i have used a medium two shot of two artists together, i haven't seen any magazines do this but i felt my cover was very conventional so i tried to break it up a little bit, also i haven't yet seen a magazine include an image of one of their writers, i have done this i feel it will make my magazine stand out a lot more but will also help gain the trust of my target audience and readers. At the bottom of the contents page i have included all of the social media icons that we have accounts with, i have done this as the majority of the readers will be technophiles and by doing this it will keep them interested but will also give them access to even more information.

The information within my article i feel would appeal to my target audience as it's finding out all the personal details of a young upcoming star, i feel it would possibly appeal more to the females in the target audience as Michael is an attractive young male but would still appeal to males as he is of a similar age and can be achieving what other young artists aspire to do. The image of Michael that i chose for my double page spread is him standing against a brick wall, the wall isn't very clean or tidy but Michael is dressed in his full suit, but still isn't wearing a blazer. I have purposefully created this effect as it shows the readers that Michael is still one of them as he hasn't quite yet hit the top of fame and his still living in his home town where things aren't always pristine and tidy but it's where he's from and he's proud to be photographed there.
Overall i feel i have represented the social group accurately in my media product as i have researched all aspects of the mixed/pop genre seen and then tried to incorporate some ideas and designs into my own magazine. I feel my magazine would interest people with a love for this kind of music as they are the target audience for my magazine and i have tried to fulfill their needs and tried to make the magazine full of their preferred details and aspects and mostly content.
